RAAW Mountain Bikes
RAAW
Mountain Bikes
Engineered in Germany. Built to be ridden hard and put away dirty. Available on demand through Essential Cycles — we handle the import, you handle the fun.
Works
RAAW doesn’t have Canadian stock. We act as your local point of contact — you order through us, we coordinate with RAAW in Germany, handle the import paperwork, and get the bike to you. Frame only is almost always the smarter financial move.
RAAW builds one of the most adjustable, durable, and repairable aluminium enduro frames on the market. They sell direct from Germany, which means anything coming into Canada attracts import duties and taxes on top of the purchase price. This is not unique to RAAW — it applies to any direct import. But there’s a smart way to manage it.
Import duties in Canada are calculated on the declared value of the goods. A frame kit at $3,850 CAD attracts duties on $3,850. A complete bike at $7,000–$9,000 attracts duties on the full amount. The difference can be several hundred dollars.
Our recommendation: order the frame only (or frame + shock) through us, then we build it up here at EC with the components of your choice. You get exactly the build you want, you pay duties only on the frame, and the labour and parts sourced locally aren’t subject to import tariffs. It’s the smarter way to own a RAAW.
Why frame-only makes sense
- Lower import duties — calculated on the frame price, not a complete build
- Choose your own components — fork, shock, wheels, drivetrain exactly as you want them
- Built locally at EC — labour and Canadian-sourced parts aren’t subject to import tariffs
- 5-year warranty transfers — to the second owner too, which helps resale value
- We handle the paperwork — import documentation, customs, coordination with RAAW
- Duties and taxes are additional and will be communicated before you commit

RAAW
RAAW is a small German brand that makes one thing: aluminium mountain bike frames built to be ridden hard, maintained easily, and owned for a long time. No carbon. No marketing fluff. Just well-engineered bikes.
Ruben Torenbeek founded RAAW in 2017 with a clear philosophy: aluminium is the right material for a mountain bike. Not because carbon isn’t lighter, but because aluminium is stronger in impacts, easier to repair, and doesn’t catastrophically fail. Every RAAW frame is designed around oversized bearings, external cable routing, and hardware that a home mechanic can work on with a single 5mm Allen key.
The Toolbox Concept is what sets RAAW apart. Every bike ships with adjustable lower shock mounts that change BB height, suspension progression, and allow a mullet wheel conversion. The headtube accepts angle-adjusting headsets. Chainstay length is adjustable. You can tune almost every aspect of the bike’s geometry to suit your riding style and terrain without sending it back to the factory.
The five-year warranty covers the first and second owner — meaning a used RAAW still has warranty coverage. That’s unusual in this industry and says something about how confident they are in the frame.
