Mountain biking can be a solo sport. You drive to the trailhead alone, ride alone, load up and go home. There's nothing wrong with that — sometimes it's exactly what you need.
But most of us got into this sport because of other people. Someone took us on our first real trail. Someone waited at the bottom when we were still figuring out how to ride drops. Someone convinced us to try the line we'd been eyeing for months.
Having a crew changes everything. And finding one as an adult — especially if you're new to an area, new to the sport, or just haven't connected with a group yet — can be harder than it sounds.
What "Crew" Actually Means
A riding crew isn't just people who happen to be at the same trailhead. It's people who know your pace, know your goals, and push you in the right ways. It's people who'll tell you honestly whether you're ready for a feature — and who'll be there to hype you up when you are.
It's also people who make riding more fun. Who turn a regular Wednesday evening into something you actually look forward to. Who make shuttle days and road trips happen instead of just talking about them.
The Untamed Approach
Untamed is a development program first. We're here to make you a better rider — that's the focus. But one of the best parts of the program, the thing athletes mention over and over, is the people.
When you train together for 12 weeks, something happens. You see each other progress. You share the hard sessions and the breakthrough moments. You develop the kind of trust that makes group rides actually work — where people wait for each other, communicate clearly, and genuinely want everyone to have a good day on the bike.
All Skill Levels, All Genders, All Welcome
We take riders from total beginners to experienced racers. Age 15 to Not Dead Yet. All genders. The range is intentional — it makes for a better team.
Beginners bring enthusiasm and remind everyone what it felt like to learn something for the first time. Experienced riders share knowledge and set the pace on harder terrain. Everyone has something to offer, and everyone has room to grow.
What matters isn't where you start — it's that you're willing to show up, put in the work, and support the people around you. That's the only requirement.
More Than Just Skills Sessions
The weekly coaching sessions are structured training. But the event days — Tri-Cities, Whistler, Squamish — are where the crew energy really shows up. Full days on the bike together, exploring new terrain, post-ride hangs. The kind of riding days you remember.
Past athletes stay connected after the season ends. They plan rides together, share beta on trails, and show up for each other at races. The program is 12 weeks, but the crew often lasts much longer.
