Gears & Brakes Deep Dive: Elevating Precision and Control

Take your bike maintenance skills to the next level with our Gears & Brakes Deep Dive course. This session focuses on the detailed function, installation, diagnostics, and repair of two critical systems—derailleurs and brakes. Building on concepts from our "Bike Mechanic Essentials" course, this offering is designed for those who want to further develop their mechanical expertise. While some previous mechanical experience is recommended, it is not required, making this a great opportunity for both novice and intermediate riders to expand their skills.

Under the guidance of Niceguy Geoff, you’ll gain practical, hands-on experience with your bike, allowing you to fine-tune your drivetrain and braking systems for smoother, more reliable performance.

What You’ll Learn

In this intensive course, you’ll dive deep into the mechanics of gear shifting and braking, gaining a thorough understanding of how these systems work and how to keep them performing at their best:

  • Derailleur Installation & Adjustment

    • Learn the proper installation of front and rear derailleurs and how to adjust them for smooth and precise shifting across all gears.
  • Brake Systems: Hydraulic & Mechanical

    • Explore the function and maintenance of hydraulic and mechanical brake systems, including brake pad replacement, rotor alignment, and brake bleeding for hydraulic systems.
  • Diagnostics & Troubleshooting

    • Identify common issues with both gear shifting and braking systems and learn how to diagnose and resolve problems before they affect your ride.
  • Fine-Tuning Techniques

    • Master the art of fine-tuning your drivetrain and brake systems for peak performance, ensuring smooth shifts and reliable stopping power.
